In the Spring of 1968, a local fraternity named Phi Alpha was established with the sole purpose of seeking a charter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In the summer of 1969, seven members of the Phi Alpha Fraternity traveled to the SAE Anniversary Convention in San Francisco, California to petition to become a chapter. The Convention unanimously approved to charter and on October 25, 1969, the Phi Alpha Fraternity became the Indiana Sigma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Indiana Sigma was named in honor of long-term chapter advisor, house corporation officer and volunteer Richard "Dick" Schelsky Purdue '60.
Since our local founding in 1969, we have initiated over 1,000 men into our chapter. Today, our chapter is made up of 60 men who excel inside and outside of the classroom.
Our current house at 831 N. 5th Street opened in 2012. Its features include suites/beds for 40 men, onsite parking for all residents, full-service commercial kitchen/dining room, library, two study lounges, basketball court, outdoor patio featuring gas fire pit, an house director apartment.
